Safer Internet Day 2009
Date: 11.02.2009Today is officially Safer Internet Day 2009 (SID 09) – a day introduced to encourage us all to consider ways of minimizing the dangers associated with children and teenagers using the internet.
It’s good timing as it follows the news earlier this week that a new survey revealed UK teens aged 13-15 were using the internet for surfing soft porn and other inappropriate websites far more than their parents ever imagined.
The focus in 2009 is on cyber bullying and the potential danger of social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Bebo.
Research carried out by MSN also revealed that 51% of 14-19 year olds across Europe have unrestricted access to the web and that a worrying 29 per cent of these teenagers had suffered cyber-bullying.
