Google sees Voice Search as Key
Date: 06.04.2009
Google has pointed out that it views voice search as a major and significant opportunity for building its presence on the mobile web.
In the early days the voice search system has been criticized for not being able to understand accents other than American and therefore supplying unreliable search results. Reports now suggest that voice search is working better and that the numbers of users are increasing daily.
Back in 2002, Google developed a service which enabled users to search with a simple phone call. The company admitted it "wasn't very useful because the results were displayed on your computer and Google discontinued it".
Then last year, the search giant introduced an updated feature under the Google Mobile App for the iPhone.
Google believes that voice search is core to its future mobile plans.
Voice Search is now also available on the Android based T-Mobile G1 and last month was introduced on the BlackBerry as a free download.
