The figures published by Nielsen on Friday showed that search enquiries had increased to more than 9.5 billion in March this year which is a 16.7% increase on the identical period last year.
As predicted, Google maintain the largest search engine market share. Yahoo, Microsoft’s Live Search and MSN continue to compete for second place. Although it’s been rumoured that Yahoo can expect to lose up to 3% of valuable market share by not renewing deals with Hewlett-Packard and Acer which allow their computers to automatically default to Yahoo.
The market share loss could be exacerbated for Yahoo as Microsoft appear to be planning a $100 million campaign to boost its new search engine which is expected to be launched by the middle of the year.
