Not all eCommerce Systems are SEO Friendly
Date: 28.04.2009
A Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) specialist has recently highlighted that not all online shops are SEO friendly.
Although, online retailers are increasing employing SEO techniques to attract more customers to their sites in a relatively low cost way, one industry professional has pointed out that some businesses need to choose more SEO friendly eCommerce systems.
Jason Cozens, joint managing director of Bite Digital, who provide eCommerce and SEO solutions, says not all platforms are equal when it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO).
In an interview Cozens said retailers need to be aware of the fundamentals of search engine optimisation (SEO) and then use that knowledge to ensure that the eCommerce shopping solution they plan to use is compatible with site optimisation.
"Currently, there are several hundred eCommerce systems, many of which are missing important features like complete control over page names, titles, meta tags, headings and automatic site maps," Cozens explained. "Many have inherent architecture structural problems that make the sites they produce under-perform in search engine rankings."
A report released earlier this week from Internet Retailer found that 55.3 percent of retailers plan to increase search engine optimisation (SEO) this year while only 24.2% have plans to increase their paid search budgets.
