Websites Blocked in Pakistan

Date: 06.07.2010

All of the nine websites, including Facebook, Yahoo and YouTube, are now back up and running in Pakistan after being banned for hosting blasphemous material thought to be deemed offensive to Muslims.

Last month a court in Pakistan temporarily blocked the social networking website Facebook and other sites for allowing the running of a competition called “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day.” Judge Mazhar Iqbal said “it displayed material against the fundamental principles of Islam”. The ban was eventually lifted after Facebook backed down and removed the offending pages.

Facebook, the most popular social networking site, was launched in February 2004. Its success has been phenomenal with over 400 million users worldwide. Facebook has been so successful it is allowing business traffic through its pages with the use of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). This move has proved to be extremely successful our SEO Manchester teams and other SEO companies in the UK.
