Twitter-Fastest Growing Search Engine

Biz Stone, the founder of Twitter, announced earlier this week that Twitter amazingly now handles over 24 billion search queries per month. Google, Yahoo and Bing handle 88, 9.1 and 4.1 billion respectively making this a very impressive feat for what was originally considered as a social media website.

When you think of Twitter you don’t immediately think of it as a conventional search engine. The majority of Twitter ‘searches’ are from inside user’s tweets or from ‘trending topics’ displayed on the webpage. Biz Stone says that Twitter is “more like an information network or a source of news.”
