China Tightens Internet Monitoring
Date: 16.07.2010Reports from China this week detail how the Chinese government are tightening their monitoring of the internet and cracking down on users they consider to be too outspoken.
China has always had a tough censorship policy and as the internet continues to expand and grow at such a pace it appears to be taking steps to keep a tight control over its 420 million population. Only last year the government closed down Facebook and Twitter for a period of time.
Blogging has also come under great scrutiny in China. A blog allows individuals to express their thoughts and comments, usually on a daily basis. Search engine optimisation experts, such as our SEO Manchester team, advocate blogs as an essential ingredient in any online marketing campaign. To date over 61 blogs so far have been reported to have been closed down in China. Blogger Yao Yuan commented that “If internet users don’t speak out, all sites will be cracked down on in the future” he went on to add that “ordinary people will forever lose their freedom to speak online”.
