The Yahoo/Bing Alliance

Date: 30.07.2010

With Google having around 90% of the search engine market what impact will the impending alliance of Microsoft's new search engine Bing and Yahoo have on internet users?

Initially one of the major changes is that all search engine results will go directly to Bing but will appear to customers as though they are separate. This has already had an impact on Yahoo with the layoff of some search engine staff. In the case of Pay Per Click ads Bing will continue advertising on both sites but Yahoo ads will be passed through Microsoft's adCenter. Yahoo hope that the alliance will be a much needed cost saving exercise whereas Bing are looking at it in monetary terms, wishing to increase their revenue.

Although any significant change in Google's market share won't be immediate online marketing experts, such as our search engine optimisation Manchester team are optimistic of its success. Healthy competition and improvements in SEO will bring any welcome benefits to online businesses and internet users.
