A New Era of Multi-Media Technology
Date: 19.08.2010A survey recently published by Ofcom has revealed that our media habits are changing. Watching television is still very popular, taking up half our waking hours, but other technologies, such as the internet, texting, listening to music and emailing are all hot favourites.
With the advent of digital, HD, recordable TV and the numerous channels on offer, “television still has a central role in our lives. We are watching more TV then at any time in the last five years” according to James Thickett at Ofcom. Although TV viewing is on the rise so also is peoples ability to multi task media activities. We are becoming proficient at simultaneously using various technologies, such as viewing TV whilst texting, emailing or social networking. 70% of homes possess a computer and with the introduction of WiFi and Smartphones surfing the web couldn't be easier.
The survey also shows that 16-24 year olds are experts at multitasking. However, the gap between the generations is narrowing as half of the over 55's or 'silver surfers', as they have come to be known, use the internet regularly. As the internet grows in popularity online marketing experts, such as our SEO Manchester team, suggest that a greater proportion of business marketing budgets should be invested in internet marketing to attract as many potential customers as possible.
