Google to Introduce Video Calling
Date: 26.08.2010Computer to computer video chat calls is nothing new but Google hope to take this feature one step further by allowing users to call friends and family from a British style red phone box.
This call feature is available to anyone with a Gmail account and is expected to provide stiff competition to companies such as Skype. The Google voice booth initially will only be available in the US at College campus locations and airports. Landline calls within the US and Canada will be free but elsewhere around the world calls will start at 2 cents per minute using a pre-paid card.
Google said “ Given that most of us don't spend all day in front of our computers we thought it would be nice if you could call people directly on their phone”. Our search engine optimisation Manchester team think that gmail video calling from Google is an exciting new development in telecommunications. Whether Google calling will have a significant impact on Skype remains to be seen. However with over 560 million registered users and 124 million regular callers how many customers remain loyal to Skype in the future following the launch of Google's new feature will be interesting.
