Yahoo! V Google Instant
Date: 21.09.2010The Senior Vice President of Yahoo! has recently made a statement that Google Instant is not an original concept. In fact Yahoo! claim they actually introduced a similar system over five years ago.
Google recently introduced their new service Google Instant which shows your search results as you are typing them. Our
SEO London team see Google Instant as being a very useful service. Yahoo! however, suggest that their Alltheweb service, introduced in 2005, was very similar in idea. They also went on to launch Yahoo! Instant later the same year which showed speech bubbles displaying the search results as the user typed.
Yahoo! claim to hold five patents relating to the “Instant” technology and have not yet confirmed as to whether they will address this issue with Google. They have however released a statement saying “We routinely take appropriate measures to protect that innovation- whether by patent, Copyright or trade secret. Yahoo! does not comment on the specific details about how we protect our innovation for a particular product or innovation”. We will have to await the outcome.
